Weddings are always happy, but living together afterward can be a different story.
During courtship, each partner tends to put his or her best foot forward. Embarrassing habits, flaws, and temperaments are not always fully exposed. We reveal our "social personalities" but some of our really selfish and offensive behaviors do not surface until after the wedding cake is cut. As a result, couples may enter marriage with a host of misconceptions as to how life will be lived after both have said, "I do." In time, conflict breaks out and there is the painful discovery that they differ radically on what each one considers non-negotiable issues. This can be frightening as husbands and wives hit the hard wall of reality and realize that they have married an imperfect person. For some, this can lead to feelings of entrapment, anger, and despair.
