Any way you cut it, parenting is a tough job.
Like most tough jobs, parenting can be broken down into smaller, doable jobs to help us successfully accomplish our goals.
The Model - The actions and behaviors of the parents will directly either strengthen or inhibit their children's growth as individuals. "What behaviors will my children learn from me?"
The Mentor - Parents can respectfully speak with authority to encourage personal growth and build a positive bond in the relationship. "What can I teach my child?"
The Guide - Parents must actively work to mold the child in the ways that seem best. "What must I ensure that my child learns?"
The Psalmist says of God's commands in Psalm 78:4, "We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done." (KJV)
This is as good a book on proactive parenting as I have seen. It is a cold splash in the face against passive parenting.

Dale Sadler earned his Bible degree from Freed-Hardeman University and his master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Kentucky University. He is currently a School Counselor at Portland East Middle School, and is also in private practice as a family counselor in White House, TN. Dale also serves as the part-time youth minister for the Birdwell's Chapel Church of Christ in Cottontown, TN. Dale and his wife Malita live in White House with their two children.
