As a young man, Leroy Brownlow was not a member of any church. Before entering college, he became a Christian and soon realized he was being called to preach God's message of salvation to his generation.

While still in his twenties, he held revival gospel meetings every summer and explained to the large crowds what he believed and why Churches of Christ seemed to best represent Bible-based, non-denominational Christianity.
